The James Turrell Skyspace currently under construction, has already sparked imagination and creativity at Friends. Using the hoarding directly below the building site as their canvas, Art Club students painted a stunning mural for all to enjoy. The design was created by MS student LJ ’27 who thought deeply about Turrell’s depiction of the idea of light when he once said, “My work has no object, no image and no focus. With no object, no image and no focus, what are you looking at? You are looking at you looking.” Those passing through the inner courtyard are invited to spend time with the mural and consider the query, “Where do you see the Light?”
The community is grateful for the students’ work and the support they received from their art teachers Morgan Acheson and Stephanie Teo and staff of the Center for Peace Equity and Justice. The Skyspace is scheduled to open in 2023.
